KAUST Calls
Blueprint Director, Tim Hughes has been appointed Watersports Advisor on the Red Sea coast, Saudi Arabia in order to establish an unprecedented watersports facility at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
KAUST is a brand new, state-of-the-art research university with an international community that is newly opened at Thuwal, 80km north of Jeddah, KSA, KAUST is the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud who has underpinned the project to the tune of $23 Billion.
When completed, the university campus will accommodate 20,000 people with residential neighborhoods, supporting commercial and extensive recreational facilities. The 36 million square metre site will include a Marine Sanctuary, Marina, Yacht Club and more than 17km of coastline.
Tim will be establishing KAUST’s watersports operations and recreational marine activities and will work with the local service provider and project management team in order to supervise the full watersports set up over the next 2 years. This will include creation of policies, development of a clean boating programme, fleet procurement, training and implementation of all watersports activities.
KAUST will have an unrivalled fleet which will include research vessels, submersibles, sport fishing boats and dedicated dive boats in addition to leisure craft such as powerboats, yachts, dinghies and windsurfers.
